Gentle heart surgery with the DaVinci robot
A standard of cardiac surgery at the Heart Valve Center are minimally invasive surgical techniques. Whenever possible, our surgeons operate with the video-assisted (Da Vinci robot) keyhole technique.
The robotic arms have better freedom rotation than the human wrist. Any tremors are filtered out. And instead of standing bent over the patient for a long time, I sit at a comfortable workstation that prevents premature fatigue and can move two of the four robotic arms at a time.
With the DaVinci surgical robot, we allow patients to experience reduced surgical trauma, less pain, faster recovery, and smaller scars as opposed to sternotomy surgery, which is performed through the open sternum.
